Last night I told a friend that "I love him so much and always remember that" ?

I opened up to him about my feelings last year and he said he respects me and my feelings. Everytime I tell him things like these, he just reply with a smiley. I am not sure though if he feels the same. Because for someone who doesn't feel comfortable hearing these things will politely tell that person to refrain from those messages. In his case, he always just reply with a smiley icon.
