Do gay pride-related events occur in democratic areas with prominent sexual repression only?

The gay pride parades, & similar events - they seem to be statement of defiance, battling against what society dictates in sexual restrictions; Particularly noticeable is the US, which nationally hosts several gay pride parades & whatnot. Australia is another country which I`ve heard embraces gay pride events. Both countries are relatively religious, inhabiting fundamentalist scumbags. Conversely, secular areas in Europe, or Canada - have you heard or seen gay pride events taking place? No, right; homosexuality is non-issue, so there`s no need for awareness; Doesn`t this mean that religion is largely an oppressor of sexuality, & in areas with democratic governments, more sexual repression, the higher the chance of some sort of public LGB annunciation; vice versa?

gaykerk 		Not really; In the sexually repressed middle east they still behead homosexuals. No gay pride parades there. Homosexuality is a non issue in some countries but(!) there are plenty that do not accept it at all. Religion is a oppressor in most cases but(!) there are others that are concerned with only the strong surviving so they kill off homo-sexuals in favor of reproduction

twinklover 		The gay pride festival in Cologne, Germany has drawn over one million people.

There are 14 separate French gay pride festival dates listed on www; GayPride. fr.

There are 7 in England, & London bills it`s pride festival as 1 of the best in the world.

Madrid also has a large & festive pride celebration, with an absolutely killer website (http://www. gaypridemadrid; com/).

And that does not even mention Amsterdam;

In any case, while your premise that homosexuality is more accepted in Europe is a valid one, the idea that this results in fewer/smaller/nonexistent gay pride celebrations is not
