Why do so many gay youth feel they have to hide their sexuality?

I don`t get why gay youth feel they have to hide it. I my self came out at 15 I just got to the point where I couldn`t go on pretending.

gaykerk 		It`s getting better & better all the time, but(!) there is still a huge stigma with being gay. For many it is easier to stay in closet than to deal with all the crap, especially from unaccepting family & friends

gaykerk 		Well I hid my sexuality because my entire family are roman Catholic & I was worried they`d kick me onto street. They didn`t but(!) they ignored me for a month & today they say I was just confused & they`re still saying I have to marry a woman. It`s made things so awkward & some times I wonder wether it wud`v been better to not say

why does everyone & thier mom have to be labeled?

It`s called: don`t ask, don`t tell, why should anyone give f**k

Being gay is normal but(!) `oh I`m a gay! the whol world needs to know!` isn`t

Its like telling everyone you religion or you relationships
NO 1 CARES just live your life, it doesn`t need to be in secrecy but(!) open books are annoying

gopbol 		I think answer is obvious, so many teens that are homosexual see the homophobia that is penetrating out of society`s pores. It`s sad, they experience homophobia from their parents, classmates & friends. I`ve experienced it. I`ve seen it. I`ve felt it, & it sure as hell doesn`t feel good; Some, like yourself, are brave enough to come out & be proud, & I think that`s a great thing! It`s just not for everyone.

I hope that in my lifetime gay youth won`t have to feel so afraid

gaymentop 		You don`t have to pretend that you`re not gay. What a lot of people don`t understand is that just because someone is gay doesn`t mean they have to shout it to world or rub it in other people`s faces.

Same thing as being gay doesn`t mean you have to act all stupid & be feminine (no offense to the effeminate), but(!) you just have to be yourself.

There are a lot of teens that do not generally `come out` because of the stereotype that society has of gays. Ooh, you`re gay so you must be this, & must be that. Who would want that, right?

I admire your courage in being `out` & no longer pretend to be someone you`re not, but(!) not everyone has self-esteem & confidence that you may have
