Open Question

Editorial on gay marriage; ?

Okay this is what I have started in my journalism class for an editorial. Is it any good? Please don`t laugh.

Why should government be allowed to discriminate based on anything? Why can’t people be able to love anyone they want? State & religion is supposed to be separate, yet gay marriage isn’t legal in most states;
Thomas Jefferson said, “We hold these truths to be self evident. That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty & pursuit of Happiness; ” If everyone is entitled to the pursuit of happiness, then man should be allowed to find that happiness with anyone, be it man or women.
The heart wants what the heart wants. Yet we Americans are basically dictating who you are allowed to love; 50% of all marriages end in divorce. may be if gay marriage was made legal in all 50 states, divorce rate wouldn’t be so high.
In December 2005, in the case of Minister of Home Affairs v. Fourie, the Constitutional Court of South Africa ruled that it was unconstitutional to prevent people of the same gender from marrying when marriage was permitted for people of opposite gender, according to wikipedia.
Same-sex marrige is legally recognized nationwide in many European countries, including, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, & Portugal. Yet only places that allow gay marrige in States are Connecticut, Iowa, Massachussets, New Hampshire, Vermont, & Washington D. C.
Seperation of Church & State is a government policy, & you as Americans have chosen to accept this. So outside of religious aspect of it, there is no reason to prohibit gay marriage. There is no social, & there is no economic reason for marriage between 2 consenting & in-love same-sex partners to not be permitted.
Many believe marriage is a special bond between man & a woman. That homosexuality is a glitch of sorts in human brain, in the same context as bipolar disorder, manic depression, palsy & so forth;
It has been said that they need medical treatment. It is unnatural in behavior & they should not get married in the traditional sense; God doesn’t condemn homosexuals, but(!) he condemns act of homosexuality.

Again please don`t laugh at me. Be honest, but(!) not mean. I`m sensitive; our teacher told us that we had to talk about why people didn`t like our issue. I didn`t want to put whole thing on here, you`d probably get bored; It`s pretty long. oh yeah, i`m in 9th grade also.
