Is this considered sexual harrasment?

Recently some co-workers found out I was lesbian. 2 women I work with are homophobes. 1 day they were making comments to other co-workers about my sexuality, making joke out of it. I confronted 1 of them, & she told me I brought it on myself by being gay; We worked with several gay men & I asked her why she had no problem with them. I was told by her that because I`m woman & they are women it`s different. She admitted they are homophobes;

Today I had meeting with my manager & the other woman involved. She was very defiant, not even wanting to go to the meeting, & defending of her actions; This is the 3rd time I asked for this to be addressed, & I had to DEMAND it.

I am forced to work with this woman several times week. I feel uncomfortable around her because of how she views me. I don`t want to work with her, but(!) was told I had to or I`ll get my hours cut.

Is this considered sexual harrasment? I felt offended by what was said, & it was not addressed until nearly 2 weeks later even though I repeatedly asked for it to be. but(!) since the intial comments were made when I was not there (but have several witnesses & 1 of women admitted to it), is it still a case? How about when the 1 women told me I brought it on myself, & her other comments DIRECTLY to me?

I would think only thing you could do about this is get a lawyer. She`s not sexually harassing you but(!) she is discriminating you about your choice in sexuality; & you can get her for that. but(!) it also means you risking your job. In the end your manager will feel your the 1 causing the problem not her; She only does it to get to you cause she knows it does; Just laugh at it next time. Let her think you could care less what she thinks. She`lll see she isn`t getting to you anymore & she`lll stop. If your wanting justice then you need lawyer then sue her & the company for not doing anything about her; Or at least go tell your Human Resource dept that she is discriminating you & if something isn`t done then you plan to get lawyer & see what they can do about it

I don`t think It`s sexual harassment but(!) if the behavior continues, it may be discrimination based on your sexual orientation, which is also illegal

I think they should leave you alone & further that your HR is legally obligated to deal with it. I also think that if you are overtly displaying your homosexual side that this may offend senses of some people. We should all be bland in the work place, but(!) they have no right to bother you about it

Yes, that is sexual harassment. However, sexual harassment based on sexual orientation IS LEGAL in majority of states. Federal law does NOT include any protection for you under Title VII (The Civil Rights Act of 1964); State laws only protect you if state has adopted such law. This is 1 of problems that homo-sexuals in the USA face. Open discrimination is allowed & is common

Unless you are directly confronted with comments about your sexuality & someone is not willing to come forward on your behalf all you have is hearsay, which is by law inadmissible; When you confronted her you were asking for her feeling on subject & her answering a question would not be harassment.

The legal definition of sexual harassment: Unwelcome sexual advances or conduct on job that creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment. Sexual harassing behavior ranges from repeated offensive jokes to a workplace full of pornography to outright sexual assault. Sexual harassment is prohibited by the federal Civil Rights Act of 1991 as well as state laws.

From what you`ve described, it does not sound like `sexual conduct;` however, you may wish to speak to an attorney.
