twinklover 		It depends on the state`s individual laws but(!) in general, marriage is considered better than unions because in 1 way or another, unions are not as equal as marriage in terms of benefits such as life insurance

mensexonly 		There are a number of taxation & other financial benefits (access to pensions, life insurance, etc) that flow from marriage as opposed to civil unions. More importantly, it`s a matter of respect & common courtesy; They have RIGHT to be treated no differently than any other couple, & not be treated as second class citizens
