Yes to an extent; I personally believe anyone should be able to marry anyone, including multiple partners, so long as all are willing. At the same time, I do respect other peoples beliefs, & no 1 should be forced to marry a couple if they personally think it`s wrong, no matter how stupid their reason may be. So overall, I believe if you`re authorized to marry people, then you decide

Yes, it should be legalized.
Let people decide who hell they marry too as long as there is consent for it; No 1 should have right to prevent people from marrying if they really love each other;

Why it`s illegal? I honestly now nothing about the political or religious state in Australia, but(!) I wouldn`t be surprised if it was illegal for barbaric reasons

You know, a few decades ago we had this debate on interracial marriage.

Funny thing: children & grandchildren of those who were so opposed to it are often the ones now opposed to gay marriage

Personally I would never say that gay Marriage should be allowed in any part of the world. Where I come from homosexuality Is illegal & is not considered to be socially accecptable; Since It`s is illegal there cannot be any LGBT right groups & the law would never allow it;

It might sound harsh but(!) every part of the world has their own view; Homosexual acts are also not natural, you never see a male dog humping another male dog in the a@@ right? Everyone has their right to choose what they want. but(!) for reasons I explained I personally will not support it

As a lesbian, I personally don`t care for the exact words `gay marriage`. I`ll take `gay equal rights as straight people` & not fight religious on the term marriage. I just want equality. I think if people like Britney Spears & Larry King can get married, divorced, married, divorced etc on repeat, why can`t perfectly monogamous gay couples get same rights as people who clearly don`t take it as seriously?

I just want to see EVERYONE receive the same protections & rights under the law. I want to see gay people be able to adopt because there are tons of orphaned children that need love. I want to see gay couples receive the same tax benefits that hetero-sexual married couples receive; I want to see gay couples not have to fight to visit their partners in hospital & be told that they can`t make critical decisions for them when they`re on their death beds (look at the case that happened to lesbian couple in Florida on vacation). I want to see gay transnational couples get married & have their partners become residents/citizens of their country; They can keep the word `marriage` so long as these rights are bestowed upon EVERYONE

Gay marriage should be legalized everywhere. No 1 has the right to tell someone else who they can or cannot marry based on their personal beliefs

g`day Alex,

Thank you for your question.

Gay & lesbian people claim that it makes them full citizens with same rights as everyone else. Opponents say that marriage between a man & women is a long standing institution but(!) most support gay & lesbian couples having the same rights as de facto hetero-sexual couples.

Regards

Marriage, between any consenting adults, should be legal everywhere, ideally; & it should be marriage, not some fob-off `civil union` like we have in the UK.

I think our concept of marriage is outdated, but(!) we`re all children of the world we`re brought into & marriage does have some attractive features - such as those lovely tax perks in the US (I don`t know if Australia has similar things), or the expression of commitment it has come to represent; So it should be open to everyone, not just man & a woman, and, I think, not just 1 of either, either; So long as everyone involved is okay with idea, why not let people be married more than once?

I really don`t care what Australians choose to do.

gay marriage should be legalized in Australia, & everywhere else. I think it is so fucked up to tell people who they can & cannot marry; As long as they`re not hurting you, why should you care? Let people be happy

Why just in Australia? There are 5 other continents that have gays on `em who want to be married;

Or did you mean the country? If that`s the case there are 194 other countries that have gays on `em who want to be married

Marriage, period, should be legal for everyone in a secular government, whether the people are gay, straight, bi, trans, whatever. Australia is not theocracy, so yes, gays should be free to marry, just like everyone else

I can`t think of any decent argument that holds any weight against it
