Why do gay men wear wedding bands when they are not married?

I have notice quite a bit in professional world that guys (that have openly admitted they are gay) wear wedding bands. Not because they are married to another guy, but(!) because they feel they will be better received by other professionals.

Just curious as to your thoughts on this;

twinklover 		Under law in some states this might be legally true, but(!) they have taken vows of fidelity to each other & in their hearts they are married

jimmygay 		Paulo & I wear identical rings on our wedding fingers because we are engaged to be married & as soon as he finishes his degree & moves to England we will get a civil partnership. P&P :-)
