Guys: How do you avoid the pressure to `bareback`?

This is a serious question.

So many gay guys in their 20s are so flippant about condoms & AIDS that I am constantly being asked about engaging in `barebacking`; it`s outrageous!

The porn industry isnt helping either. by glamorising unsafe sex in their video`s.

Young gay guys seem to think `It wont happen to me` or `You die from AIDS anymore. It`s just a managable illness`.

Why is this? Why is it considered `un-cool` to use condoms? Why should I have to keep declining offers? Do we need more education campaigns educating people?

twinklover 		deal with it like any other pressures around - take your stand & don`t care what the other person thinks of you. Hey! He might even respect you more for being responsible & cautious!

charliegay 		I only did it with my ex. He was a virgin & I had been tested (and I haven`t slept around, either). We were together for two years. I think it is meant for serious relationships where the 2 men are in love; but(!) I agree we do need to reeducate certain portion of the gay community

gaykerk 		I honestly think it`s down to self-esteem issues; a lot of gay guys don`t think very much of themselves, so they live for quick pleasures; I don`t think education would help - most people know the basic facts, & many just choose to ignore them

charliegay 		Make sure to carry plenty of condoms, with you; Stand your ground. Let them know that you won`t do it bareback. Whatever you do let the big head do thinking!

I`m old enough to have done bare backing, before AIDS. I now only do so within a committed relationship. I don`t like condoms, but(!) hate the idea of dying even more
