Are there any universal cruising gestures in the gay community?

I typically workout late at night due to a busy schedule. As such, it`s usually pretty slow; Twice now, guys have come up to machine next to me, put their towel down, & kind of stood there waiting; Not really sure if that means anything, I try to ignore it (even though these guys are really attractive). After a few moments, the guys have picked up their towels & moved on without actually using the machine. I wonder if anyone has any thoughts or has had similar experience.

twinklover 		Guys put towels down next to a machine to `reserve it` or because they don`t want to throw it on the floor; They may notice that you don`t give up your machine so they move on. This is actually proper gym etiquette as they won`t talk with you while you are working out, even to ask if they can `be next` on yr machine

serenity 		I have no idea as to what these other guys may or may not have been thinking; As to a `Universal` cruising signal to other gay/lesbian people, I`ve never heard or even thought to ask if there were such gestures or things if you will
