How can I tell if my son is gay?

I have a 14 year old son. He is great ice skater. the only prob is he likes figure skating over hockey, reading books over video games; has no male friends & hangs out with fat girls. help?

Caelan32 		The one part of your question that states "the only prob is he likes figure skating..." suggests that you may already have issues with homosexuality and any preconceived notions that go along with being gay. I would suggest that you do not confront him about it as he will talk to you about sexuality on his own timeline, if he deems it necessary. If you have created an environment that is homophobic, then it is likely he will not open up dialogue on the subject. As a parent, I would hope that you love and will love your son no matter what his sexuality is. Suicide rates among gay teens are exceptionally high and supportive parents can help make all the difference. Finally, I am not confirming that your son is gay, based on what you noted in your question. If he does reveal to you that he is gay, I suggest that you reach out to support groups such as PFLAG if you are having trouble coping.

I also want to comment on stereotypes. We tend to associate hobbies, social groups, and other subjects/items with sexuality and these associations do not always prove to be true. There are heterosexual figure skaters as well as heterosexuals that like to read!

mensexonly 		I preferred figure skating over hockey because I didn`t want to get my brains knocked out of me. I also read books, & didn`t play video games. (Atari was the favorite back then) I also had a fat girl friend, Patty; My nick name for her was `Jelly Donut`; Don`t judge your son either way. He is at an age to enlightenment. Show a keen interest in his readings, & also his skating; Don`t assume the `worst`; No matter which way he is, he is your son, & they way he is, is it. My daughter thought she was gay. Had a girl friend & the whole nine yards; She realized after about a year, she wasn`t; She is happily married to a nice man now; I never judged her; I just let it all play out

Look, I kissed Keith once, ok? Just once. My thighs were sore from skating & he rubbed them with Ben-Gay. I told him that it was burning so he blew on them; one thing led to another. but nothing happened except for the kiss. Well, & we docked.

I like books because they transport me away. I like to imagine I am the damsel in distress & Keith is rescuing me. & Sheniqua is not fat, she is husky & likes chicken.

Just leave me be. oh, food for thought - if you hear slight rumblings from my bedroom, I am thinking of joining the wrestling team at school & Keith will be showing me how to mount another wrestler; Don`t be alarmed.
