When will world ever become more accepting of gay people?

When will the day come when people can live their lives way that they want to live it without being discriminated against by society? When will time come when people can travel where they want & not ever have to worry about group or mob chasing them down to punish them because of their sexual orientation? To `courtney killed kurt`: I`ve heard & read that some countries such as Jamaica do things like that to gay people. Jamaica is very homophobic & does not tolerate gay people in their country. I read 1 article that states if `certain` people of Jamaica find out that you`re gay, you could be hunted down & killed for it. I think that`s silly for someone to do such an act just because someone is gay.

In past, homosexuality was more acceptable in places like Japan, Rome, & Egypt.

In Japan, it wasn`t uncommon that a samurai would have a relation with his trainees.

In Rome, they taught their children about sex, usually through family friend, by showing them process with the same sex.

In Egypt, sex with opposite sex was for reproduction; Love & relationship was reserved for friends of the same sex.

However, these views changed after influence by the anglo-saxon culture. Although, it just really depends on where you are & who you live around. whole world will never accept the same exact ideal

We`re doing better! Like they said, gay is the new black; Blacks still aren`t treated properly in some places but(!) it`s a lot better for them than before.
Same deal with the gays. People are becoming more open =]
It will just take time

Unfortunately, we will never see a day when people are no longer discriminated against for who they are. but(!) on the bright side, people have already become more willing to accept others for who they are. To see what I mean, try thinking about what it would have been like to be an openly gay man in society say, oh I don`t know, 20-40 years ago? Gays were strongly more hated than they are in todays world, believe me; Try going back even further, how bout another 20 years before that; gay bashings along with race riots erupted everywhere, it was criminal things that happened; but(!) in todays world, things are slowly becoming better, isn`t there bill or something that President Obama is going to try to pass to eliminate whole DADT in military? Gays are receiving more recognition in the US than ever before, It`s becoming more & more legal to marry in states & cities. It is a slow process I agree, but(!) times are changing, slowly but(!) surely; Who knows, may be by the end of 2010, gays & lesbians can get married across US;
Not sure about that, just thought :)

When will the world become more accepting of each & every CONSENTING sexual choice imaginable? Why stop at gays? Bring on polygamy (many countries have it), sibling marriage (like Sweden already has), or beastiality perhaps; I say we accept anything & everything as normal, eh? (abolish `normal?`) Don`t judge anything, be indifferent to everything. heck, put it in our lawbooks & let`s PROMOTE hell out of every sexual decision an individual decides to make. If you`re going to be consistent. be fkn consistent;

courtney - It`s interesting that you mention Romans accepting gays & `accepting anything,` seeing how that society imploded from within because of corruption & immorality.

alex - It should be based on the principle of supposed `equal rights,` not just how big of minority group is. if gays want their unnatural lifestyle PROMOTED via LAW, than the same should go for polygamists & gay siblings - no matter the number - because they are U. S. citizens TOO who deserve equal rights & their consensual love honored, just as much as anyone. the only argument against those other groups is a MORAL argument (funny, gays HATE the moral argument)

um, 15 years ago? seriously, where would a gay couple travel & mob would chase them down & `punish` them for their gayness? please tell us.

also, gayness has always been accepted in parts of the world. & in western cultures, if you look more than few hundred years back, it was widely accepted. just look at the romans - anything was acceptable then

I take it you don`t live on the West Coast or spend much time in Western Europe. Speaking as a totally out gay man, I have lived in Washington, Oregon, Connecticut, France, Italy, & the Netherlands over the last ten years--kissing my male friends (I don`t like kissing women) hello & good-bye, holding hands with them sometimes in public. & I have never once been harassed or discriminated against; Attention Dwellers in Darkness & in Red States: the Revolution is over--We won

Things have come a LONG way since fifteen or twenty years ago; At least things like gay marriage is seriously being talked about on shows like the View, etc, etc, & not some sniggered about pub talk from homophobes saying stuff like how we shouldn`t be allowed to vote, etc.

There`s always going to be people full of antipathy towards gay community just like there will be racists who judge people on their skin colour. Those people, however, are having less & less of a voice through continuing acceptance of the wider community

I know! I am a gay supporter & lover. I feel for these poor people who have to face regular criticism & put downs just because of their orientation! & in Saudi Arabia & Iran the they even have a death penalty for them! All a bunch of narrow minded ignorant bigots who don`t want to accept any other orientation than `straight` I come from a religious family who don`t approve of gay people or like them; However, my sister is the worst. She says `They are freaks & they deserve to die` & when I ever read anything about openly gay people being harmed she says `You reading about poofter marriage?` She even think they deserve to be stabbed & bashed brutally. She is very sadistic, rude & evil when it comes to the mentioning of homosexuality. Sadly, I don`t think it will be accepted until a long time. & when people get taught & finally open up their eyes to see orientation does not define who you are

it`ll take while, I mean it`s in people`s nature to discriminate whether it be for race or gender or sexual orientation, but(!) i`m sure people will move on from homosexuality eventually

yep but(!) only when they show the proper respect

you have to remember that in the 60`s, 70`s & into the 80`s that gay pride parades almost always had very offensive people strutting such as men dressed as nuns with fake male parts strapped to their habits & other groups being very offensive, you get what you give & the gay community made some very serious mistakes in the past

but today`s gay community is better, & people are forgetting filth of past & in time gay people will be mainstreamed & part of the status quo
