Why is homosexuality not accepted in East Asia but(!) accepted in the West?

Just read an article on msnbc; com about police raiding & shutting down the first gay pageant in China. the article said many gays in China don`t even know what chinese word for `gay` is because it is so rare.

Asians are mostly Buddhist which have no doctrine against homosexuality. Most Westerners are Christian which do have specific doctrine against homosexuality.

Yet why is homosexuality so opened & accepted in the West, but(!) so suppressed & not accepted in Asia?

Wipe out sex slavery first, then concentrate on minority rights

bobdilan 		Not all people in the west approve of it any more than all people in `the east` disapprove; Homosexuality is everywhere & in all cultures; It has been more accepted & less accepted by different societies; I actually read online that people in Asia accept it more now than they have in recent decades; Times are changing

serenity 		Because most of the countries in the west have freedom of speech. As another person already answered, this doesn`t mean that everyone approves it. Most of the countries in the East Asia do not respect this freedom of speech & whenever anyone makes an opinion against government beliefs, they are repressed;

The biggest example of lack of acceptance in West was the voting of Proposition 8 in California, which banned gay marriage a few months after it was legalized
