Why aren`t gay people allowed to get married in Australia?

According to the Commonwealth Marriage Act we have no problem with allowing people to get married to their aunt or uncle, niece or nephew or ‘first’ cousin. So why don`t we allow gays to marry?

Firstly gay marriage is when 2 people willingly consent to marrying. An animal cannot consent to marrying a person. Perhaps if the church wasn`t so opposed to condoms & sex education there wouldn`t be so many Aids/HIV infections in the world. @molly: I`ve always admired the New Zealanders.
