how can I help my friend who is moving because he is gay?

My dear friend Wolfgang told me yesterday that he wanted to move to Berlin because of his sexual orientation. We both live in a small village in Bavaria (Germany) with only 1200 inhabitants; Wolfgang is gay but(!) he tells me it is difficult for him because of small number of inhabitants & the catholicism in my town; What is the problem? I live here & love it & I am not very practicing catholic or a homophobe. He always has me, Hans, Fritz & Otto. We are his good friends forever. He was born here in this village, why doesn`t he want to stay? Hans told him he `couldn`t wear a lederhosen every day in Berlin like he does here in Erlbach`. I suggested he`d move to Munich but(!) he didn`t seem to listen to me. Is Munich that homophobic compared to Berlin? I want him to live here in Bayern. When he moves to Berlin he cannot wear lederhosen or dance Schuhplattler like we do here in Bayern; He was born here in Erlbach village, why move from here? Both me, Hans, Fritz & Otto are born here & we are planning to stay, but(!) we are not gay;
He will move FAR away from us. Could I convince him to stay here in Erlbach, or at least here in Bayern? If he decides to leave, what should I do? Should me, Hans, Fritz & Otto make farewell party for him?
