Is Europe more gay friendly than the United States?

I think so; Marriage is currently available to same-sex couples in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain & Norway.

Gay people shouldn`t call their unions marriage. Marriage is between God, man, & a woman. I`m all for letting them get partnered & letting them have all benefits of marriage, but(!) calling it marriage is why Christians don`t like the idea. It is insulting to call it marriage because marriage is a union in the presence of God

depends what country you are speaking of. greece for example is not so gay friendly. but(!) the countries you mentioned are. apart from marriage thing, it is easier to express your gay self in these countries & also in england. there is less gossip about it & people don`t stare as much. I have never been to USA so I cannot tell you for sure, but(!) I think it depends on state there as well

I`d think so. Americans are probably a curiosity amongst the europeans considering we`re so puritanical about human sexuality;

Especially when we allow violent killing scenes on prime time television, but(!) a bare breast at any time on TV is an `outrage`

Having been to the Netherlands more than once, I have to agree with you. Europe is a far more civilized continent than Americas

It depends on which country you are in. :-)
Personally, I am a Norwegian. & I have impression that we are a LOT more gay-friendly than they are in the USA;
Certain East-Block countries still have looooong way to go, though. Lithuania & Latvia, for instance. Russia; Etc.

I`m part of this youth organization for LGBTQ-people, called Skeiv Ungdom; Or Queer Youth, in English. :-)
And last year, some of the members went to, I think it was Latvia, in order to celebrate Pride there. There were HUGE protests against the whole thing; So much that it was kind of dangerous, actually. & they had to get police-protection. People threw stuff, beat each other up & such; :-O

I think we`re a little more forward-thinking & less controlled by strict religious beliefs over here (I`m in the UK). That`s what`s holding back the progress of gay rights in America
